Jero, Rental Hut

The Jero rental hut is located on the eastern shore of Lake Jerojärvi in Koli National Park.

It is possible to hike to Jero hut. The distance from Ukko-Koli to Jero via Ikolanaho is approximately 3.8 km.

Public Transportation

A pre-ordered, door-to-door shared taxi ( is available for the route Joensuu–Koli. The route of the shared taxi is determined by the pre-orders, which is why all timetable times are estimates. The taxi will go to Joensuu airport and train station, or for example the central hospital if ordered, and then take the passengers to their destination at Koli. You can hop in the taxi along the route as well. It is recommended that you order the shared taxi on the previous day by dialing the number +358 20 741 4392.

Driving Instructions

From Koli Nature Centre Ukko, drive downwards along Ylä-Kolintie Road for 2 km and turn left onto Jerontie Road. Continue for 1.3 km and turn left onto Kotaniementie Road. Continue for 2.6 km and turn right, as shown on the signpost, to the yard of the Jero rental hut.

No reservations longer than one week at a time.


Keys to the Jero rental hut will be placed in the key box next to the door of the hut. A 4-digit key combination for opening the key box will be sent to you no later than two days before the beginning of your reservation.The combination will be sent to the phone number or e-mail address provided when making the booking. Leave the keys in the same key box when you leave after your stay.


  • There are two beds in the bedroom and three beds (bunk bed + sofa) in the kitchen/main room, mattresses, pillows and blankets, no linen.
  • Electric heating and two heat-storing fireplaces.
  • A water closet.
  • Electric cooker/oven, refrigerator with an ice box, microwave oven, coffee maker, electric water boiler, tableware and cutlery for five people, vacuum cleaner.
  • Wood-burning lakeside sauna, rowing boat, dry toilet and campfire place. 
  • 2 life vests for adults and 1 for children.
  • Dishwashing liquid, spices, fire-making equipment and toilet paper are not included.
  • The well in Jero reservable hut is out of commission. Therefore do not drink the tap water even after boiling it. It it recommended to bring enough drinking water with you to the hut. It is also possible to borrow water containers and get clean drinking water from the Nature Centre Ukko. 


  • Lure fishing with a single rod is permitted at Jero, but persons aged 18-64 years must pay the fisheries management fee ( For trap fishing with a fish trap or net, in addition to paying the fisheries management fee, you will need local trap fishing permit, which can be purchased from Sale Koli (Kolintie 94, Lieksa).
  • Please leave no litter or other traces of your visit.
  • The hut is not suited for the disabled.
  • Pets are permitted in the hut.
  • Camping in the yard is prohibited.
  • In the summertime it's recommended to bring a mosquito net with you to quarantee a good night's sleep.
  • Metsähallitus is not to be held responsible for possible disconnections in electricity network during storms.
