Directions to Oulujärvi

The Oulujärvi Hiking Area is located on a narrow stretch of land known as the “waist” of the Maiden of Finland, 80 km west of Kajaani, 150 km east of Oulu, and 450 km north of Helsinki. The nearest airport and railway station are located in Kajaani.

By Coach to Lake Oulujärvi

Manamansalo Island can be reached by coach from Kajaani and Vaala. Current timetables can be checked at Matkahuolto (matkahuolto.fi).

By Car to Lake Oulujärvi

By car, the distance to the Oulujärvi Hiking Area from Kajaani is 80 km and from Vaala 50 km. Manamansalo Island can be accessed by turning from Highway 22 (Oulu-Kajaani) onto road 8823 (Petäjälahdentie) or using the Alassalmi ferry from the southern shore of Lake Oulujärvi. The ferry operates roughly every 30 minutes, providing a memorable summer experience, especially for children.

By Boat to Lake Oulujärvi
