Valtavaara-Pyhävaara Nature Reserve

Area: 10.21 sq. km. Established in 1991, expanded 2021.
Valtavaara Hill is the Kuusamo area's highest point (482 m) and the diverse area offers every nature-lover something from spectacular views and challenging cross-country skiing trails to fell vegetation which thrives even in these harsh conditions, as well as rare birds and winter wonderland landscape. Valtavaara is a wonderful place to visit in summer and winter.
Valtavaara-Pyhävaara Nature Reserve is located in Kuusamo northeast of Ruka Holiday Resort (ruka.fi). The reserve is comprised of three areas: Valtavaara Hill, Pyhävaara Hill and Juhannuskallio Cliffs.
Konttainen hill is a great place for a short time hike with 2 km day hiking trail, also in winter time.
