Rokua National Park Trails

There are about 57 km of marked trails in Rokua area. Man can also travel from Oulu to Rokua along The Tar Route Hiking Trail.

The trails are easy or mid difficult. To prevent the erosion caused by the feet of hikers, it is recommended that hikers stay on the marked trails.

Starting Points for Trails

  • Rokua National Park parking areas on the Keisarintie (Emperor's Road, southern side of the park) and Pooki (northwest side of the park) 
  • Jaakonjärvi parking space (former Visitor Center Suppa)

Oulujoki River Valley Tar Trail (Oulujärven Tervareitistö) 100 km

Starting Point
Rokuanhovi (Jaakonjärventie 43, 91670 Rokua) or Rokua Health & Spa (Kuntoraitti 2, 91670 Rokua)

This trail follows the Oulujoki river banks via Utajärvi and Muhos to Sankivaara, Oulu. The trail is marked with grey signs, orange-tipped trail marks and orange paint marks. The symbol of the trail is a logo depicting a tar boat.

Fitness Trails

Starting Point
Rokua Health & Spa (Kuntoraitti 2, 91670 Rokua)

The fitness trails (4.8-km, 10.6-km, 13-km) are trails intended for burning off calories. The average amount of calories burned when taking the trail is given for each of these trails, which are marked with red markings.

Trails Maintained by the Municipalities

The trails maintained by the surrounding municipalities add to the trail network in the area. They are marked in the forest and in Rokua outdoor map with yellow colour.

When forest and grass fire warnings are in effect, fire is only allowed at covered campfire sites that have a flue. A fire can be also lit in fireplaces at wilderness and other huts. Always use extreme caution when handling fire. The one who lights a fire is always responsible for its safe use. Please note, that making fire at these campfire sites can be banned locally.
