Peaceful Ruunaa Rapids are a popular place for relaxation and fishing. During the hot days in the middle of the summer, the quiet waters may be the best fishing spots. At the end of the summer, you can see the fish jumping out of the water on top of the rapids. Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and Lake Trout (Salmo trutta m. lacustris L.) which are over the minimum length requirement for fishing have been regularly planted in the Hiking Area.

The Recreational Fishing Area of Ruunaa

Ruunaa Rapids and the lakes between them are part of Metsähallitus recreational fishing area no. 7525, where a fisheries management fee (www.eräluvat.fi) is required along with an area-specific recreational fishing permit (no. 7525) (www.eräluvat.fi). Permits may also be purchased on the Metsähallitus Eräluvat web shop (verkkokauppa.eraluvat.fi).

Fishing from boats is permitted throughout the area, but the use of a motor boat for fishing (trolling) is prohibited. Anchoring boats in rapids and running areas is prohibited. The long-term mooring of boats is only permitted at fee-based moorings (4 areas). A mooring permit is EUR 20.00 for one year and EUR 60.00 for five years. Moorings can be booked at the Ruunaa Hiking Centre.

Hook and line fishing place for children is marked on the river bank downstream of Neitikoski Rapids. A fishing permit is not needed there.
