Because of the coronavirus, safe distances should be kept even in nature, and thorough hand hygiene should be followed at huts, campfire sites and after using the toilet. Metsähallitus' policies and guidelines will be updated as the general corona guidelines become more specific. Check our website for the current situation: www.nationalparks.fi/coronavirusguidelines.

Starting Points for Trails
There are marked trails on the islands of Älgö, Modermagan and Jussarö.
Nature Trails
-
Älgö Nature Trail, 2 km, starts at Rödjan Nature Information Hut. There is a box at the beginning of the trail, where hikers can borrow a booklet about the Nature Trail. The trail is quite steep in the beginning, so it is not suitable for disabled. Along the trail, there are a lookout tower, remains of a shelter from the last war ("Continuation War" 1941-1944) and Lake Storträsket. Brochure of the nature trail (julkaisut.metsa.fi)
-
Modermagan Nature Trail, 1,5 km, does not have a particular starting point, but you can start hiking at whichever point. Along the trail, there are boards with information about the outer archipelago zone. The terrain is quite uneven, and the rocks are slippery after rain. There are a restored dugout shelter and splinterproof shelter by the side of the trail.
-
Jussarö Trail is about 4,7 km long. You can choose to walk it also in shorter sections (3,3 km or 2,1 km). It goes past mine shafts from the mid 1800s, and after that continues to old-growth forest, which with its handsome pines and spruces is very rare growing on a sea zone island.
