Huikinvárjohka, Open Wilderness Hut (so called Huikkimajoki)

Northern Lapland, Inari region, Kaldoaivi Wilderness Area.

Huikinvárjohka, coordinates: Euref-Fin (~ WGS84) lat: 69° 42.6534' lon: 28° 25.0672'  ETRS-TM35FIN: N: 7734269 E: 554863.

The hut is located along the Sevetti‒Pulmanki Hiking Trail, approx. 500 m north of River Huikinvárjohka, on the shore of a small pond, at a distance of about 100 m from the hiking trail.

The hut is suitable for winter use. It was built in 1990.


  • A wood-burning stove and a gas stove.


  • Pets are allowed in the hut, but only if other visitors consent to it.
  • In some old maps there is a hut called Laavuvaara near Huikinvárjohka Open Wilderness Hut. The old Laavuvaara hut has been disassembled, and Huikinvárjohka hut was built about 2 km to the south of the former Laavuvaara hut location.
  • Safety on hiking
  • There are bins for mixed waste at the hut, but hikers are asked to bring their own waste to one of the area's recycling points. Read more about Hiking Without Littering.
