In Finland, there are many types of hiking trails varying in their level of difficulty, length and purpose. There are summer and winter routes as well as trails for walking, rowing or canoeing and bicycling, etc. Some of the trails are short and easy, but some are quite long or demanding, and taking them requires that you have a good map and solid map reading skills.
Certain trails have been built with wheelchair access in mind, and they can also be taken with prams or pushchairs.
This section lists the most important trails that connect or run across the borders of hiking trails. These trails are maintained by Metsähallitus or one of its partners. The trails and routes running within the hiking destinations – for example, national parks – are described in the Trails section under each destination.
