Trail Description
Trail markings: blue squares on trees.
Recommended direction: can be done in both directions.
For the first 600 metres, the trail runs along the pedestrian and bicycle route running by Pyhäntie Road. The trail will take you to mystical mires that are lined by a breath-takingly handsome fell range. Part of the trail runs through varied heath forests and has some altitude differences, and some stairs in the steepest sections. The duckboards make your way to the bird-watching tower easier. At the Tiaislaavu lean-to shelter, you can take a break and grill sausages, while Siberian jays are observing you. Or you can admire the northern lights. The Tiaislaavu lean-to shelter is fairly easily accessible by pushchair.
There is no winter maintenance on Tunturiaapa Nature Trail but in winter time there is a marked snowshoe and winter walking trail along the Nature trail. In good weather it is possible to walk to Isokuru campfire hut or even to Tiaslaavu lean-to-shelter without snowshoes. There is a separete fatbike route going along the southern edge of the Tunturiaapa mire, marked with blue plowing markers.
Please Note
During spring floods, we recommend that you wear rubber boots or waterproof hiking boots. In the summer, you can wear trainers. If you go on this excursion when cloudberries are ripe, allow yourself enough time to pick them. Winter trails are not maintained, but they will stay walkable as visitors use them. The distances in the metal signs in Pyhä-Luosto National Park are flat distances, which means that if a route has great height differences, the real distance can be slightly longer.
Poropolku Trail, 7 km, circle trail

At first, the Poropolku Trail runs in a dry heath forest. Hikers may notice the ruins of a logging cabin on the edge of a small depression. Thereafter, they will see a reindeer round-up fence of the Pyhä-Kallio reindeer herding cooperative. From the Porolaavu lean-to shelter, the trail continues across a mire, along duckboards, to an illuminated skiing trail base. By walking along it, you will arrive at Kerontie Road. Return to the visitor centre along the pedestrian and bicycle route.
Please Note
There are moist sections on the trail. Take this into account when choosing shoes. No winter maintenance. The distances in the metal signs in Pyhä-Luosto National Park are flat distances, which means that if a route has great height differences, the real distance can be slightly longer.

The trail runs via Lampivaara and Pyhälampi, crossing the River Pyhäjoki a couple of times. There is a nature trail with information boards between Rykimäkero parking place and Lampivaara. Along the Rykimäkero trail, you will see Rykimäkuru, the most handsome gorge in the region. It is a tear in the rock bed, whereas the other gorges in the region have been shaped by melt waters of the Ice Age. A wide range of bird species thrive along the trail – you will probably see or hear bramblings, common redstarts and Siberian jays when hiking along the trail. From the trail, there is a connection to the Pyhä-Luosto Hiking Trail.
The Rykimäkero Campfire hut is accessible from the parking area by wheelchair, with an assistant, as well as by pram (a trail accessible to all: 0.7 km in one direction).
In summer, the trail also serves as a mountain bike trail, excluding the section between Rykimäkero and Lampivaara.
Please Note
There is a 75-metre-section of steel duckboards when heading to the south from the Pyhälampi day trip hut. However, dogs can fairly easily run alongside these duckboards. The distances in the metal signs in Pyhä-Luosto National Park are flat distances, which means that if a route has great height differences, the real distance can be slightly longer.

The 670 steps will take you to the summit of Ukko-Luosto and to a lookout point from where an impressive view opens out to Siurunaapa. On the summit of Ukko-Luosto, you can head to the north and return along the Luosto Nature Hiking Trail, via the Tikkalaavu lean-to shelter, to Luoston portti. This way, the trail will be about 6.5 km long. The trail is 4 km long, if you return along the stairs.
There is no winter maintenance on the summit of Ukko-Luosto Fell trail, but the trail part from Tikkalaavu lean-to-shelter goes over the fell to Torvisen Maja café and is marked as a snowshoe trail.
Please Note
We recommend that you wear proper hiking boots, as the trail is rocky. The distances in the metal signs in Pyhä-Luosto National Park are flat distances, which means that if a route has great height differences, the real distance can be slightly longer.
Karhunjuomalampi Trail, 10 km, circle trail
Summer trail, duration 3-4 h.
For the most part of the trail the route is easy, but partly intermediate, due to steep ascents and stairs.
Along this trail, you will see the national park's most famous sights: the Pyhänkasteenputous Waterfall, Isokuru Gorge and Uhriharju Ridge, so this trail is recommended for all first-timers to Pyhä-Luosto.
Starting Point

Sights
Along this trail, you will see the national park's most famous sights: the Pyhänkasteenputous Waterfall, Isokuru Gorge and Uhriharju Ridge, so this trail is recommended for all first-timers to Pyhä-Luosto.
Trail Description
Trail markings: red squares on trees.
Recommended direction: can be done in both directions.
For the first 600 metres, the trail runs along the pedestrian and bicycle route running by Pyhäntie Road. Part of the trail runs though varied heath forests, part on the bottom of Isokuru Gorge. The altitude differences are challenging and the number of stairs at both ends of the gorge is high. However, the trail is easy to follow. Via the northern slopes of the summit of Kultakero, a gravel trail will take you past Pyhätunturi Hotel and along Kultakerontie Road, you will arrive at the visitor centre. The trail presents the hikers with a splendid cross section of local geology, as there are ancient stones shaped by waves along the trail. These stones remind the hikers of the fact that the fells are part of an ancient seabed. From this trail, there are connections to the Tunturiaapa Nature Trail and the Pyhä-Luosto Hiking Trail.
The is no winter maintenance on this trail, but a cross-country skiing trail ascends to the Karhunjuomalampi daytrip hut from the northern side of the fell, from along the illuminated skiing trail and from the Kiimaselkä skiing trail. There are signposts in the terrain. In winter, you can snowshoe to the Isokuru Campfire hut from Pyhä. In the winter time there is no marked trails in Isokuru gorge and moving about in there is not recommended.
Please Note
Isokuru is a restricted area, and it is therefore forbidden to branch off from the marked summer trail for the good of nature and for the safety of the hikers. In winter, there is a risk of avalanches in the Isokuru gorge, so there is no marked winter trail in the ravine. The wooden duckboards and the stones can be very slippery in wet weather and at the time of autumn frost. The distances in the metal signs in Pyhä-Luosto National Park are flat distances, which means that if a route has great height differences, the real distance can be slightly longer.

The Luosto‒Yli-Luosto Trail takes you to breathtaking landscape. Some of the fell slopes are very steep and rocky. When setting off from Luoston portti, first walk along the base of a skiing trail, to the Luostonloma parking area. Cross the road and then walk along the fell ridge to Keski-Luosto Fell and continue to Yli-Luosto Fell. Yli-Luosto wilderness hut, built in 1949, is located close to the River Luostonoja, on the lower slope of Yli-Luosto Fell. It is a good rest spot. The River Luostonoja, which is located close to the hut, is the only place for taking water along the trail. Boil the water before drinking it. When returning along the same trail, the length of your hike will double, or you can agree upon return transport by the former Perhe-Luosto downhill skiing centre (about 4 km back from the Yli-Luosto hut). Perhe-Luosto can be reached by car. The trail has been classified as intermediate, as most of the trail is very rocky.
Please Note
We recommend that you wear proper hiking boots, as the trail is rocky and partly steep. No winter maintenance. The distances in the metal signs in Pyhä-Luosto National Park are flat distances, which means that if a route has great height differences, the real distance can be slightly longer.

Trail Description
Trail markings: green squares on trees, and poles with green ends in the bare fell landscape.
Recommended direction: clockwise.
This is a challenging, but rewarding trail. The fell, which used to be a seita site for ancient forest Sámis, ascends to the height of 540 metres. From the summit, a wide view opens out to aapa mires and fells. For the first 600 metres, the trail runs along the pedestrian and bicycle route by Pyhäntie Road. The trail presents the hikers with a splendid cross section of local geology, as there are ancient stones shaped by waves along the trail. They remind the hikers of the fact that the fells are part of an ancient seabed. Part of the trail runs along the nature trail past Isokuru gorge, then branching off to the Oravalampi lean-to shelter. This section includes 70 metres of duckboards made of steel. Please take this into account if you are accompanied by a dog. There is a steep and rocky ascent from Oravalampi onto the summit of Noitatunturi Fell. When descending from Noitatunturi Fell, an amazing view opens out, to the right, to Kuorinkikuru gorge. The trail connects to the path that takes you to the Karhunjuomalampi day trip hut and then returns, along Uhriharju Ridge and Isokuru, the deepest gorge in Finland (220 m), to the starting point. Descending from Uhriharju ridge to Isokuru gorge is facilitated by four hundred steps, and there are also a couple of hundreds of steps at the southern end of Isokuru. An alternative trail without any stairs: along the northern slopes of Kultakero, the gravel trail will take you past Pyhätunturi Hotel and, along Kultakerontie Road, down to the visitor centre. From the trail, there are connections to the Tunturiaapa Nature Trail and the Pyhä-Luosto Hiking Trail.
Please Note
The trail is very rocky and it is challenging to follow the trail symbols in poor weather. We recommend that you conquer Noitatunturi Fell in clear weather. Isokuru is a restricted area and it is therefore forbidden to branch off from the marked summer trail for the good of nature and for the safety of the hikers. In winter, there is a risk of avalanches in the Isokuru gorge, so there is no marked winter trail in the ravine. The wooden duckboards and the stones can be very slippery in wet weather and at the time of autumn frost. No winter maintenance. The distances in the metal signs in Pyhä-Luosto National Park are flat distances, which means that if a route has great height differences, the real distance can be slightly longer.

The trail runs, via Luostonloma, to the Torvinen hut. From the Torvinen hut, the trail continues, along the back slope of Ukko-Luosto Fell, through an old-growth forest, to Lampivaara. At Lampivaara, you can enjoy the view opening out to Pyhätunturi Fell before returning to Luoston portti. The trail has been classified as intermediate, but you must be in a good condition, as the hike is long. From the trail, there are connections to the Luosto Nature Hiking Trail and the Pyhä-Luosto Hiking Trail.
In summer, the trail serves as a mountain bike trail and in winter as a cross-country skiing trail.
Please Note
There are no water points along the trail. The distances in the metal signs in Pyhä-Luosto National Park are flat distances, which means that if a route has great height differences, the real distance can be slightly longer.

Pyhä-Luosto Hiking Trail, 30 km/each way
Summer trail, duration 2-3 days. In the winter you can ski between the fell resorts, but the cross-country skiing trail follows the summer trail only partly. Intermediate trail, but also suitable for beginners. The trail is also included in the longer 45-kilometre-long Pyhä-Luosto Hiking Trail. This trail is more challenging, due to its lenght and a rocky section from Yli-Luosto open wilderness hut to Ukko-Luosto.
The hiking trail connects the fells and can be done throughout the year. Even though the Pyhä-Luosto Hiking Trail has been classified as intermediate, it is also suitable for beginners, as the distances between the rest spots are short and the trail has been marked well.

You can take drinking water from the household water wells of the Rykimäkero Lapp ‘kota' hut and the Huttujärvi rental cabin throughout the year. At Kuukkeli, take drinking water from the river and boil it before drinking.
Sights
Views from Ukko-Luosto Fell, Lampivaara Amethyst Mine, Isokuru Gorge, Pyhänkasteenputous Waterfall and Pyhänkasteenlampi Pond.
Trail Description
Trail markings: yellow squares on trees.
Recommended direction: can be done in both directions.
From the trail, there is a connection to most of the Pyhä-Luosto day trip trails. The hiking trail connects the fells and can be done throughout the year. In summer, you can walk along the trail and in winter, some of the trail serves as a cross-country skiing trail. Along the trail, you will see round, bare felltops, ravines and a number of geological and historical destinations. You can make your excursion suitable for you (the length and the difficulty) by choosing the suitable trails. The trails that run on fell and hill summits are narrow and rocky, whereas some of the trails on the slopes run along a wider skiing trail base or along a gravel trail that is suitable for mountain biking. There is a 75-metre-section of steel duckboards when heading to the south from the Pyhälampi day trip hut. However, dogs can fairly easily run alongside these duckboards. You can also bypass it by hiking the Lampivaara‒Latvavaara section via Rykimäkero and Rykimäkuru. There are bridges across the river. Even though the Pyhä-Luosto Hiking Trail has been classified as intermediate, it is also suitable for beginners, as the distances between the rest spots are short and the trail has been marked well. The most challenging matter on the trail is the low number of water points.
During the snow-free season, the section between Huttuloma and Luosto also serves as a mountain bike trail.
In winter, the hiking trail serves as a 35 km long cross-country skiing trail in the section between Luosto, Lampivaara, Kapusta, Huttujärvi and Huttuloma (approximately from week 7 onwards) and from there, the skiing trails continue outside the national park.
Please Note
Check the location of the water points before setting off. Isokuru is a restricted area and it is therefore forbidden to branch off from the marked summer trail for the good of nature and for the safety of the hikers. In winter, there is a risk of avalanches in the Isokuru Ravine, so there is no marked winter trail in the ravine. The wooden duckboards and the stones can be very slippery in wet weather and at the time of autumn frost. The distances in the metal signs in Pyhä-Luosto National Park are flat distances, which means that if a route has great height differences, the real distance can be slightly longer.
