Trekking

There is a total of 27 km of marked trails in the area. In Närängänvaara, you'll find two circle trails, and the Ölökyn ähkäsy circle trail is also close by.

Bird Watching

For the bird enthusiast, the Närängänvaara area offers fantastic opportunities to spot species living in old-growth forests, from the Siberian jay (Perisoreus infaustus) to the red-flanked bluetail (Tarsiger cyanurus).

Sights and Sceneries

On Näränkävaara Hill, you'll find the Kirkonkallio and Yheksänsylenkallio lookout spots as well as the unique Näränkä Wilderness Farm.

Other activities

  • Berry and Mushroom Picking: The forests and wide mires in the area are laden with wild berries, and the versatile broadleaf and mixed forests are ideal for mushroom-picking. Delicious cloudberries (Rubus chamaemorus) grow in, among other spots, the spruce and pine mires.
  • Fishing: People catch, for example, whitefish (Coregonus laveretus) with fishing nets from Lake Ylä-Kaartojärvi. In late winter, the ice-fishing season takes off. Among other fish, you can catch some humpbacked perches (Perca fluviatilis) or handsome graylings (Thymallus thymallus).
