Location of Kivitunturi in Finland map.Eastern Lapland Region, Savukoski
Protected forest area

The Kivitunturi Nature Trail showcases the full range of Eastern Lapland's fell and forest nature in all its glory: traces of the Ice Age, ravines, rocky ridges, wilderness spruce forests, creek hollows and spectacular landscapes.

Visitors can hike around Kivitunturi Fell on the 5.9 km main trail (trail with red tree markings) or continue on the more challenging Sotsonportti Round Trail (trail with yellow tree markings), which has a total length of 9.5 km. The trail has stairs, a suspension bridge, rest stops and information boards that present information on Kivitunturi's nature and geology.

The Pirunkuru suspension bridge will be renewed in the summer 2023. The old suspension bridge will be dismantled starting June 12th and the southern part of the main trail will be closed. This route section will be opened again when the new bridge is completed, estimated by the end of August. You can still use most parts of Kivitunturi Nature Trail, see the trails page for more detailed information.

From July 3 to July 5, 2023, the Kivitunturi parking area and the road leading to Kivitunturi are closed due to helicopter transportations of construction materials.

Suitability: The Kivitunturi Nature Trail is suitable for the whole family. The trail has elevation and stairs. Shoes with ankle support will help you on the trails.

The area is managed by Metsähallitus, Parks & Wildlife Finland.
