What can one do in Martimoaapa?

Walk on Marked Trails

The Martimoaapa Hiking Trail, 12.8 km, passes through the mire reserve, and the Järviaapa Trail, 9 km, is a circular trail that starts from Hangassalmenaho. The Järviaapa Trail is well suited for a day trip. In addition, the skiing trail that passes through the western part of the area also functions as a hiking trail in summer.

Go Wilderness Trekking

The area's wilderness huts make over-night hikes easy.

Go Bird Watching

The mire reserve is a bird watchers' paradise. Birds can be observed for example from one of the area's three bird watching towers located on the north side of Lake Martimojärvi, on top of Keski-Penikka Hill and on the children's nature trail. All three towers are situated on trails and are easily accessible.

The 36 km-long Lautiosaari - Puukkokumpu ski-route passes through the western part of the area. At Martimoaapa you can also ski cross-country off the trails.

Go Ski Trekking

Especially in spring when the snow crust is hard you can take day-trips or ski hikes lasting several days. The area's wilderness huts offer shelter for the night.
