Nature of Iso Linnamäki Castle Hill

The southern slope of Iso Linnamäki castle hill is a beautiful heritage site in which you can stroll through a rare meadow rich in botanical heritage that bears witness to the long cultural history of the area. Many insects also thrive in the managed meadows.

Plant species on Iso Linnamäki castle hill include field wormwood (Artemisia campestris), woodland draba (Draba nemoroso), hoary alison (Berteroa incana), greater knapweed (Centaurea scabiosa), dark mullein (Verbascum nigrum), Nottingham catchfly (Silena nutans) and field garlic (Allium oleraceum). Broad-leaved trees, handsome old pine trees and spruce thrive on Linnamäki hill. If you are lucky, you may see and hear a black woodpecker tapping on a tree (Dryocopus martius).
