Trails in Meiko

Starting points and parking 

Three circle trails start from the Meiko parking area; Kotokierros, Kuikankierros and Meikonkierros.

The parking area is also open in winter.

Kotokierros Trail, circle trail 4.4 km 

Walking time approx. 2 hours in the snow-free season, no winter maintenance. 
Fairly easy.

Hiking structures

The Meiko parking area has an information board about the area. Korsolampi has two campfire sites, a shed, a dry toilet and a table with benches. Duckboards have been installed on the wet sections of the trail. A steep part of the trail is equipped with stairs. There are signposts indicating distance in many places.

What to see  

The Kotokierros Trail runs by various forests and five small ponds or lakes. The shoreline of Mustjärvi Lake offers perhaps the most majestic view.

Route description

 A wide 600-metre gravel road to the Korsolampi rest site starts from the parking area and is accessible to buggies and wheelchairs. Just before the campsite, there is a steep hill, so this section can be traversed with an assistant.
After the Korsolampi campsite, the trail turns into a forest trail with duckboard on some sections. The Kotokierros Trail is marked on green in the terrain.
The trail is mainly easy to navigate, but due to the elevation differences in the terrain, it requires some level of fitness.

Kuikankierros Trail, circle trail 3.2 km 

Walking time approx. 1.5 hours in the snow-free season, no winter maintenance. 
Fairly easy.

The Meiko parking area has an information board about the area. There is a campfire site and firewood shed on the shore of Lake Meiko along the Kuikankierros Trail with a dry toilet nearby. The second dry toilet is located on the other side of the peninsula near the junction to Meikonkierros Trail. There are signposts indicating distance in many places. 

What to see

The Kuikankierros Trail runs along the shores of a peninsula named Näseudden. The views of Lake Meiko are magnificent in many places.

Route description 

The trail starts as a fairly wide exercise track from the parking area before becoming a forest path around the Näseudden peninsula with duckboard sections in places. The trail is marked on red in the terrain.
The trail is mainly easy but it is very rocky and has exposed tree roots in places.  

Meikonkierros Trail, circle trail 7.5- 8.5 km 

Walking time 3–4 hours in the snow-free season, no winter maintenance. 
Fairly easy.

What to see  

As the name suggests, the Meikonkierros Trail takes you around the beautiful Lake Meiko. The trail offers many lake views, diverse forests of different ages and rocks. There are also wartime bunkers and structures along the Meikonkierros Trail.

Route description 

The trail starts as a fairly wide exercise track from the parking area before becoming a forest path near Lake Meiko with duckboard sections in places. The trail is marked on yellow in the terrain.
Depending on the route you take on the north-eastern side of the lake, the shortest length of the Meikonkierros Trail is approximately 7.5 km if you skip the short trail to Näseudden. At its longest, the trail is approximately 8.5 km, in which case you will take a short section of the trail twice.
The trail is mainly easy to navigate, but due to the elevation differences in the terrain, it requires some level of fitness.
