The Örö fortress island offers plenty to see for visitors interested in cultural heritage and natural features. The oldest structures on the island, sometimes called the paradise of butterflies, date back to the 1910s, the period of Peter the Great's naval fortress. The mysterious fortress island was closed to the general public until 2015, when the island was transferred from the Defence Forces to Metsähallitus and became part of the Archipelago National Park.
