The Emblem of Petkeljärvi National Park - Black-throated Diver Pine-clad esker ridges formed during the Ice Age rise over pristine blue lakes in this beautiful part of Finland's eastern borderlands, well worth a day trip or a longer stay. Suitability: Suitable for visitors of all ages all year. The Petkeljärvi Outdoor Centre and its immediate surroundings are suitable for visitors with mobility difficulties.

Services: Petkeljärvi Outdoor Centre (in May-August, accommodation and restaurant services and equipment rental), Nature Information Hut, sauna, a barbecue hut, camping site, toilets, a boat landing stage. Services of cooperating partners are also available. Read more

Part of the North Karelian Biosphere Reserve

Petkeljärvi National Park is part of the North Karelian Biosphere Reserve (www.kareliabiosphere.fi), which also includes Patvinsuo National Park, Koivunsuo Strict Nature Reserve and Kesonsuo Nature Reserve.

The goal of UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere (MAB) programme is to develop the living conditions of the area's inhabitants while maintaining the protection of nature and the environment.
