Directions to Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park
Liminganlahti Nature Centre is closed 1.1.-4.2.2022. The Finnish Nature Centre Haltia is closed 10.1.–1.2.2022. Koli Nature Centre Ukko is closed 1.1.–26.1.2022. Kuusamo Customer Service Karhuntassu is closed 13.1.–31.1.2022.
In other nature centers in Finland, we require the use of a facial mask and keeping the 2 meter distance to other visitors. In addition, there may be requirements to show the Covid pass, and/or the number of visitors can be limited. More information Nature centers. The length of the restrictions depends on the region. Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park is located in the fell area between Kolari, Kittilä, Muonio and Enontekiö. It is 35 km from Kolari, 40 km from Kittilä, 165 km from Rovaniemi and 3.5 km from Hetta. The nearest airport is in Kittilä and the nearest railway station is in Kolari.
Please note that Road 940 from Kolari to Äkäslompolo is closed until October 2021 due to the renovation of the Äkäsjoki bridge. Recommended route is Kolari-Kurtakko-Ylläsjärvi-Äkäslompolo (Road 80).
To the Hiking Trails
The easiest way to access the hiking trails is via the national park’s visitor centres. Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park covers a wide area and there are several starting points for the trails. The visitor centres provide the best advice for different parts of the park. The starting points of the hiking trails are shown in the trail descriptions.

By Bus to Pallas-Yllästunturi
There is a daily bus service (matkahuolto.fi) from Rovaniemi to the village of Hetta in Enontekiö. The route goes via Kittilä and Muonio. You can get to Hetta from Kilpisjärvi on a regular service (matkahuolto.fi) and during the high season there is a bus (thearcticroute.com) from Tromsø that passes through Kilpisjärvi. There are two daily bus connections (matkahuolto.fi) from Oulu to Enontekiö via Rovaniemi.
On weekdays, you can get from Muonio to Pallastunturi by bus (matkahuolto.fi), which continues to Kittilä. On the way back from Kittilä, the bus goes via Pallastunturi if necessary. Some of the Rovaniemi – Muonio – Hetta buses go via Hotel Jeris, which is a 14 km taxi ride from Pallastunturi (tormaslompolo.com). The bus route from Tromsø to Rovaniemi (thearcticroute.com) runs via Muonio and Kittilä.
There are bus connections (matkahuolto.fi) to Ylläsjärvi and Äkäslompolo from Helsinki during the high season via Jyväskylä and Oulu. All Kolari trains have a direct bus connection (rundgrenky.fi) to Ylläsjärvi and Äkäslompolo.
By Train to Kolari or Rovaniemi
The closest railway stations (vr.fi) are in Kolari (35 km) and in Rovaniemi (165 km).
During high season, you can get from Kolari railway station to Enontekiö’s Hetta by pre-booking a taxi (uusitalontaksit.fi, in Finnish), which will go via Pallastunturi, Raattama and Ketomella. There is a daily bus service from Rovaniemi to Hetta (matkahuolto.fi) via Muonio.
By pre-booking a taxi (taxihietala.com), you can get from Kolari train station to Muonio and to other destinations for an additional fee. During the high season, there is a pre-bookable taxi service (matkahuolto.fi), which runs via Muonio to Hotel Jeris, Pallastunturi, Hotel Vuontispirtti and Hetta in Enontekiö. There is a daily bus connection (matkahuolto.fi) from Rovaniemi railway station to Muonio.
All Kolari trains have a direct bus connection (rundgrenky.fi) to Ylläsjärvi and Äkäslompolo. During the spring season weekends, there is a bus connection (matkahuolto.fi) from Rovaniemi railway station to Ylläsjärvi and Äkäslompolo via Kittilä. You can also hire a rental car from Rovaniemi.

By Car to Pallas-Yllästunturi
The most commonly used starting points and parking areas are located in the vicinity of the national park’s visitor centres. The trails run in different parts of the national park and there are several starting points. More details for route-specific starting points can be found on the trail page.
Fell Lapland Visitor Centre, Peuratie 15, 99400 Enontekiö, Hetta. Space for approximately 10 cars. Winter maintenance.

- Please note that hikers in Hetta must first cross Ounasjärvi lake to reach the national park. There are boat services available for the crossing.
- During the skiing season, you can leave your car on the eastern edge of the village in the Tunturi-Lappi visitor centre's parking area or in the Kalasatama area in the centre of the village, where there is winter maintenance and space for approximately 5 cars. The address of Kalasatama is Valkamatie 15, 99400 Enontekiö.
Pallastunturi Visitor Centre, Pallastunturintie 557, 99330 Pallastunturi, Muonio. Space for approximately 20 cars. Winter maintenance. In summer, there is space for approximately 50 more cars.

Fly to Kittilä
The nearest airport is located in Kittilä (finavia.fi). There are only charter flights to Enontekiö Airport.
From Kittilä Airport, you can get to Pallastunturi by a pre-booked taxi, which goes to Muonio and from Jerisjärvi to Pallastunturi (finavia.fi).
During the high season, flights arriving in Kittilä have an airport bus connection (rundgren.fi) to Ylläsjärvi and Äkäslompolo, and outside the high season the connection is served by pre-booked taxis.
