Accessible Services in Liesjärvi National Park

At 3.8 km long, the Peukaloinen Trail in Liesjärvi National Park is one of the longest accessible trails in Finland. The trail passes through pine forests, over a charming bridge, past glittering mire lakes and through a fabulous mossy spruce forest. You can admire the scenery and observe the fascinating details of nature at picnic areas along the trail.

The accessible picnic areas at Peukalolammi and Kaksvetinen allow fully equal access, making it possible for everyone to spend time together and enjoy the atmosphere of a real campfire. The accessible cooking shelter near the trail is suitable as a base for various group excursions.

There is no winter maintenance on accessible trails and structures.

Liesjärvi accessible circle trail

The flat forest trail, which has been reinforced with stone dust, is well suited for using various mobility aids or prams. There is some difference in elevation at both ends of the trail on the forest road sections. Hills make the accessible trail demanding, which means that those travelling with mobility aids may need an assistant.  You can determine whether a trail is suited for you by studying the trail descriptions before arriving.

Other easy routes

With an assistant, visitors can hike the Kyynäränharju esker from the Kopinlahti parking area. The trail is part of the Häme Lynx Trail (hameenvirkistysalueyhdistys.fi, in Finnish) and follows a somewhat wide forest trail on the Kyynäränharju esker for about 1.5 km. On this section there are some differences in elevation and the terrain is rugged. Please note that cyclists and horseback riders may also travel along the Kyynäränharju esker. There is an ordinary (non-accessible) dry toilet in the parking area. Please note that an accessible dry toilet will be installed in spring 2023. The trail is not maintained during the winter.

The building will serve as the accessible dry toilet beginning in the spring of 2023. The old accessible dry toilet will be in use until then. The ordinary dry toilet in the new building is already available for use.

The woodshed at the end of the old dry toilet building is not accessible due to its high threshold.

Korteniemi Heritage Farm

Korteniemi Heritage Farm is one of Liesjärvi National Park's best-known attractions. The Heritage Farm is open during the summer season.

There is an accessible dry toilet in the Korteniemi parking area. The Korteniemi Heritage Farm can be reached by visitors in wheelchairs along a sandy forest road, which runs approximately 300 metres from the parking area. Because the sandy road crosses the esker, it rises sharply at its beginning and then begins to descend after reaching the top of the esker. If necessary, visitors can drive from the parking area and stop near the Korteniemi farm grounds to drop off and pick up people. Otherwise, cars must be parked in the Korteniemi parking area. The Korteniemi hut is accessible by wheelchair on ramps placed upon request. An assistant is recommended.
