Here you can cross the Arctic Circle and experience the wilds of Lapland just outside Rovaniemi, the home of Santa Claus. Stroll to the fine falls at Vaattunkiköngäs and Vikaköngäs. Disabled visitors and families with pushchairs can easily walk to the waterfalls and into the woods. The river offers excellent fishing opportunities. Winter wanderers can explore the hiking area's forests and open marshes on skis or snowshoes.

Services: A wide variety of services throughout the year. Several rest spots and campfire sites with firewood and dry toilets. A day trip hut. Customer service and information at Pilke House in Rovaniemi (www.tiedekeskus-pilke.fi), which also has a science centre and forest-themed exhibition. Services are provided by cooperation parties. Trails: Marked trails and circular trails suitable for day trips (0.2 – 12 km). Nature trails including Könkäänsaari Barrier-free Nature Trail (1.5 km), which is suited for visitors of all ages and fitness levels. Water and canoe route. Read more
