Sotajoki Rental Hut

The rental hut is situated on the southern side of the River Ivalojoki, on a high bank of the River Sotajoki, about 1,2 km from the parking area by the Pahaojantie Road.

The closest village is Saariselkä 35 km, where you will find all basic services. Rovaniemi-Ivalo bus stop 25 km.

Price and Keys

60 e / day (incl. VAT 10%). The hut is reservable from March to October.

You can pick up the keys from Kiehinen Customer Service or Ivalo Customer Service. Keys must be returned to the same place they were picked up from.


Heated by a wood burning oven, a gas stove, a dry toilet, a campfire site. Please note that it takes some time before the hut is properly warm. Drinking water from the River Sotajoki at a distance of 100 m away.

The principles of Hiking Without Littering are practised in the hut. This means that visitors are asked to take with them everything they brought into the area. Read more about Hiking Without Littering.


The hut will be the closed Museum target since 31.10.2019 and it's not any more reservable.

The hut is not recommended for small children or for the disabled because of the steep and high riverbank. There is no sauna.
Pets are not permitted in the hut. Make sure you pack a first-aid kit.

Please bring your own linen or a sleeping bag. No toilet paper or paper towels are kept in the hut. Bring candles too.
The water is not tested annually, so we recommend that you boil the drinking water first.

A 12 km long marked summer hiking trail to Kultala at the River Ivalojoki has its starting point at Pahaoja, 2 km from the hut.

In the hut is possible to stay maximum 7 nights in a row.

Safety on hiking


From Saariselkä take road E-75 and drive south along it for 10 km. Then turn onto Kutturantie Road. Follow Kutturantie Road for 17 km and then turn onto Pahaojantie Road, continuing along it for 6,9 km. Then on the right side of the road is a sign to the left with the text  "Sotajoen vuokrakämppä" Sotajoki Rental Hut.
Parking by the Pahaojantie Road and from there by foot 1,2 km to the hut.
