Camping is Only Allowed in the Marked Area

Camping is only allowed in the marked camping area (6 sites for tents), not on the sand or on the beach! The erosion of the terrain is very bad due to wild camping. Campfires are only allowed in the fireplace in the hut and in the campfire site near the hut.

The  Punainenhiekka Day-use Hut is situated at the south end of Lake Pallasjärvi. It is a half-kilometre walk from Majavaoja road to the hut.

Facilities

A stove, a dry toilet and a wood shed. There is a campfire site on the grounds of the hut.

Notices

Pets are permitted in the hut, but only in case that other visitors agree with it.

Please note that the road leading to the Punainenhiekka Day-use Hut is not plowed regularly. The road may even be closed during the spring.

Visitors must come prepared with warm clothing, food, drink, maps, compass, orienteering skills and matches. Take also your own toilet paper.

Safety on hiking

Waste Management

There are no waste management services at the hut. The goal of the National Park is to be a litter-free area and hikers are adviced to bring their own waste out of the area. Recycling points can be found at Pallastunturi Visitor Centre. Read more about Hiking Without Littering.
