Things to Do and See in Pilke Science Centre

Pilke Science Centre

See the forest for the trees!

In Pilke Science Centre, visitors will experience the northern forests dynamically and through all their senses. Pilke tells about Finnish forests: what they give us, what we can do there, and our relationship with them. The science centre introduces sustainable use of forests and provides information about the diverse produce, products, and goods that they provide. Pilke also sheds light on the opportunities that diverse utilization of forest provide for a brighter future. The inspiring and interactive exhibition is ideal for all ages, for corporate and student groups as well as holiday-makers.

Pilke House

Pilke House is the workplace of around 130 Metsähallitus employees. The house is a masterpiece of skilful Finnish wood construction. The house was designed by Arkkitehtityöhuone Artto Palo Rossi Tikka Oy, and the main architect of the project was Teemu Palo. The aim was that Pilke would reflect the environmental policies of Metsähallitus and make justice to the site that is significant in terms of cityscape. Far more than being just the most obvious link to the work of Metsähallitus, wood was also a perfect choice for its great durability. For more information about Pilke House, go the Pilke Science Centre's website (tiedekeskus-pilke.fi).

House Tours and Workshops

We organize 15-minute house tours for visitors interested in wood construction and architecture. The tour provides an insight into the design and construction of the building. For more information about Pilke House tours, please visit the Pilke Science Centre's website (tiedekeskus-pilke.fi).

We offer daycare and school groups (tiedekeskus-pilke.fi, in Finnish) an active method for learning about northern forests and our relationship with the forest in a new and pleasing way. Learning at Pilke is free: workshops and entrance is free for groups. For more information about the available workshops, please visit the Pilke Science Centre's website (tiedekeskus-pilke.fi, in Finnish).
