Meals, where to buy and prepare

Cafe

Karoliina's Park Cafe at Selänpohja parking area is open on weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting. Please check the opening hours on the cafe's facebook page (facebook.com, in Finnish).

Campfire Sites

  • Lintuniemi: campfire shelter
  • Joutsniemi: lean-to shelter and a separate campfire site
  • Soimalampi: lean-to shelter
  • Harjujärvi: accessible cooking shelter and a separate accessible campfire site
  • Niinisaari: lean-to shelter
  • At the campfire sites, firewood is long trunks or splits, except for the cooking shelter of Harjujärvi where ready-made firewood is available. There is a saw and an ax at the campfire sites for chopping firewood.

Please note that when the wildfire warning is in effect, fire lighting is allowed only in the campfire site of Harjujärvi cooking shelter, that has a flue. Check the current warnings (ilmatieteenlaitos.fi).

Drinking Water

  • Surface water, such as water from lakes, rivers and brooks should be boiled before drinking, because the quality of the water varies in different areas.
  • Drinking water from the parks water-system is at each person's own risk.

Waste Management

  • There are no waste-bins in the area. Measures should be taken in advance to avoid taking unnecessary waste into the area. Biodegradable waste should be placed in a dry toilet and small amounts of clean paper and cardboard can be used as kindling in a campfire. Please note that there are also toilets that are emptied with suction (Selänpohja, Harjujärvi and Soimalampi). Do not put any food waste or other garbage in them.

Toilets

  • There are accessible toilets at Selänpohja parking area and Harjujärvi campfire shelter. These are emptied with suction.
  • There is a toilet that is emptied with suction at Soimalampi.
  • There are dry toilets at Lintuniemi, Joutsniemi and Niinisaari.
  • Bring your own toilet paper. You may need your own light source in the toilet, also during daylight hours.

Overnight Stays

Camping and Lean-to Shelters

  • Temporary camping is allowed in the vicinity of campfire sites. The best places for camping are Lintuniemi and Harjujärvi camping sites (about 5-7 tents).
  • Lean-to shelters Soimalampi, Joutsniemi and Niinisaari are suitable for four people to stay overnigt in each.

  • The village of Leivonmäki (12 km from the National Park) has a a shop, post office services, a pharmacy and a taxi.
