Aulanko Nature Reserve is located in the town of Hämeenlinna, about 4 km away from the town centre. It is easily reached by public transportation, as well as by car. The nearest airport is Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.

To the Hiking Trails

The parking area of the Aulanko Nature Activity Center (luontoliikuntakeskus.fi) is a good starting point for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails. To Hämeenlinna by Train

It is just over a 3 kilometre walk to Aulanko from the Hämeenlinna railway station. The distance by car is 4 km. Timetables (vr.fi). The public transport line number 2 also services the route from the railway station to Aulanko. You can purchase both your train ticket and your one-way ticket for Hämeenlinna public transport from the VR Matkalla application.

To Aulanko by Bus

The local buses no 2 run from the centre of Hämeenlinna to Hotel Aulanko (Aulangontie 93). Next to the hotel begin the stairs leading to the nature reserve. Line No 2U runs from the centre of Hämeenlinna to the Aulanko Nature Activity Centre (Linnanen 77), from which there is a path to the nature reserve. Timetables (hameenlinna.fi, in Finnish).

To Aulanko by Car

The route to Aulanko is signposted from the main road 3 (Helsinki - Tampere) and from the main road 10 (Turku - Lahti).

Located north of the nature reserve, the Aulanko Nature Activity Center (luontoliikuntakeskus.fi) has a large parking area, from which there is a path to the nature reserve (approx. 300 m to the reserve boundary).

A paved, one-directional ring road goes around the nature reserve and is open to motor vehicles between 7:00 am and 11:00 pm. Outside these hours, a gate blocks access to the ring road. 

There are five parking areas on the ring road. The observation tower parking area can accommodate approximately 20 cars. The south parking area of Joutsenlampi can accommodate approximately 10 cars. The remaining three parking areas are smaller and can accommodate approximately 3 cars per area. Parking is only allowed in marked parking areas. Unauthorised roadside parking is monitored. No winter maintenance.

Car parks at the Aulanko Nature Activity Center (luontoliikuntakeskus.fi) and observation tower are recommended for buses.
