What's Currently Happening in Tiilikkajärvi National Park

Check for Warnings

When wildfire warnings (en.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi) are in effect, fire is only allowed at covered campfire sites that have a flue. A fire can be also lit in fireplaces at wilderness and other huts. Always use extreme caution when handling fire. The one who lights a fire is always responsible for its safe use. Please note, that making fire at these campfire sites can be banned locally.

Hiking Conditions

(Updated April 17th 2024)

There is still some snow in the Tiilikkajärvi area. While some areas on the southern slopes of eskers are already snow-free, there may still be snow in some places, up to several tens of centimeters.

Most lakes are still covered with ice, but it is no longer safe to venture onto the ice.

The Konttikangas and Pohjoisniemi parking areas are closed for the winter, and the forest roads leading to them are not maintained during winter. This means that in spring, the thaw period lasts longer on these roads compared to plowed ones.

Movement restrictions in the esker area, aimed at protecting the delicate esker landscape from unnecessary wear and tear, begin when the snow melts. During the thaw period, movement and landing are only permitted on designated trails, camping areas, and marked landing sites.

Please note that camping is allowed only in the Koseva and Venäjänhiekka camping areas. This restriction is valid throughout the year. See restriction areas on the map (PDF 8,3, Mt, Julkaisut.metsa.fi, brochure only in Finnish at the moment, map also in English).
