Meals, where to buy and prepare

Shops, Kiosks and Restaurants

  • There is a café in Kirakkajärvi, Sevettijärvi Village. There are grocery shop in Näätämö Village.
  • Tourist enterprises (www.inarilapland.fi) in the surrounding area offer catering and restaurant services.
  • See also services of enterprises in area Kaldoaivi and Vätsäri wilderness areas. 

Campfire Sites and Lean-to Shelters

  • There are lean-to shelters at Kallokoski, Opukasköngäs and Kontinpaistama.
  • There are campfire sites at Saunakoski and Opukasjärvi.

Lighting campfires is strictly forbidden even at marked campfire sites when the forest fire warning in effect.

Drinking Water

The area's waters are usually clean and safe to drink. Flowing water is better to drink than still water. During very warm weather we recommend that you boil water before drinking it.

Across the Rivers by Bridges

Bridges across the river are located on the Sevettijärvi-Pulmanki Hiking Trail on the west side of Lake Opukasjärvi and on the Trail along the River Näätämöjoki at Kuosnijoki. 

Waste Management

  • There are recycling points at each open wilderness hut.
  • There are waste bins at the area's campfire sites.
  • Hikers are asked to follow the Hiking Without Littering principles. Waste that will not naturally degrade should be brought back with you and taken to recycling and waste points.

Toilets

There are dry toilets at each campfire site, lean-to shelter and open wilderness hut.

Overnight Stays

Camping and Lean-to Shelters

Visitors can camp in tents in any part of the area as this is an Everyman's Right (www.environment.fi). We recommend that hikers camp next to campfire sites and open wilderness huts or at old camping sites to prevent the terrain from wearing down. Hikers should always have a tent or other shelter with them even if they are planning on staying at open wilderness huts.

  • There are lean-to shelters at Kallokoski, Opukasköngäs and Kontinpaistama.

Open Wilderness Huts

There are four open wilderness huts (owh) in the Sevettijärvi-Näätämö Area. All the huts except Sollumusjärvi owh are situated on Sevetti-Nuorgam Trail on the north side of the road leading to Sevettijärvi.

  • Sollumusjärvi owh is located on the northeast side of Lake Sollumusjärvi. 
  • Iisakkijärvi owh is located on the southwest shore of Lake Iisakkijärvi.
  • Huikkimajoki owh is located about 500 m north from the River Huikkimajoki on the shore of a small lake. It is about 100 m from the hiking trail.
  • Rousajärvi owh is located on the east bank of the river which flows from the southeast part of Lake Rousajärvi. It is about 100 m from the lake.

Rental Cabins

There are 4 rental cabins managed by Metsähallitus in the area.

  • Kuosnijoki cabin is located at the foot of Alavaara Hill on the south bank of the River Näätämöjoki.
  • Saunakoski cabin is located on the south bank of the River Näätämöjoki just above Saunakoski Rapids.
  • Silisjoki rental cabin is located on the weste shore of lake Opukasjärvi in the bank of River Silisjoki.
  • Kontinpaistama cabin is located on the shore of Lake Kontinpaistamalampi on the south side of the River Näätämöjoki. The cabin is 500 m from the river.

Caravans

Caravans can be parked in the Finnish Road Administration's parking areas.

Lodging in the Surrounding Area

Entrepreneurs (www.inarilapland.org) in the surrounding area offer accommodation. More information on lodging in the surrounding area can be found in Finnish on the municipality of Inari travel info page (www.inari.fi).

Services for the Disabled

There are no services for the disabled in the area. Siida - The Sámi Museum and Northern Lapland Nature Centre is accessible by wheelchair. There is a toilet for the disabled at Siida and the outdoor museum is accessible during the summer if assisted.

Other Services in the Surrounding Area

  • There are many services available in Ivalo (www.inari.fi) about 155 km from Sevettijärvi.
  • There is a health centre, a café as well as taxi and air plane entrepreneurs in Sevettijärvi.
  • Food shops, a fuel distribution point and a taxi service can be found in the village of Näätämö 30 km from Sevettijärvi.
  • Shops in the surrounding area have some medication and pharmaceutical supplies for sale.
