Walk on Marked Trails
There is one marked trail in the Nellim area, which takes you to the restored log-floating flume. You can also follow your own trail when exploring nature in the area. To the north, the area borders the Vätsäri Wilderness Area and to the south, the Tsarmitunturi Wilderness Area.
Go to the starting point of the southern end of the Piilola Trail via Nellim. The starting point is situated along Kessintie Road in the southern part of the Vätsäri Wilderness Area. The Piilola Trail, 35 km, connects Norway's Øvre Pasvik National Park and the Vätsäri Wilderness Area.
There are good canoeing opportunities in the Nellim area. Lake Inarijärvi is ideal for canoeing. There are no marked canoe routes. However, there are two route proposals on the lake, whose starting point is the Nellim boat harbour. In addition, there are canoeing instructions available for the route from Lake Ahvenjärvi to Lake Nellimjärvi
There is a boat harbour in the centre of Nellim. The vast Lake Inarijärvi offers beautiful scenery to motorboaters as well. The closest boating base to Nellim is Speiliniemi.

Amongst Nellim's significant sights are the log-floating flume, the Iron Gate, Paatsjoki Bridge and the three nations' border point at Muotkavaara.
Ski Cross-country on Maintained Trails and Off-trails
Cross-country skiing is allowed anywhere in the area. The snowmobile tracks of the local inhabitants may be utilised if the snow is soft. There is also a 3-km illuminated cross-country skiing trail in the village of Nellim.
- Lake Inarijärvi
- For lure fishing on Lake Inarijärvi, you need either the fisheries management fee (www.eraluvat.fi) or the fishing permit 1580 (for trolling with several rods).
- The fishing season on Lake Inarijärvi covers the whole year.
- The lake is best suitable for lure fishing, fly fishing and ice fishing
Hook and line fishing and ice fishing are allowed on lake waters according to the everyman's right.

Nellim area belongs to the permit area 1612 Tsarmitunturi. A limited number of small game permits a day are sold for these areas.
Reindeer husbandry is a significant means of livelihood in the area, so hunting with hounds with a small-game hunting licence is prohibited. Those hunting in the winter season must find out, in advance, about the reindeer husbandry tasks that are being carried out in each herding area from the contact persons of each group formed by the reindeer owners.

Go Berry and Mushroom Picking
You may pick berries and mushrooms freely throughout the entire area; you will find plenty of cloudberries, lingonberries, bilberries and crowberries. Bolete are common and only rarely spoiled by larvae.
