The Hytermä area is open for visitors at the time of open water on a self-guide basis, but the buildings are locked.

By Car and Boat

The Hytermä Nature Reserve can be reached only by boat. 

Hytermä is an excellent destination for a day-trip. It´s only a short rowing from boat landing place on mainland to Hytermä islands From the boat landing place the shortest distance by boat to Hytermä is about 350 metres. The distance from the boat landing place to Hytermä boat jetty is around 1 km. 

Rowing boats of Hytermä are situated at the boat landing place and are available from Activity Maker (activitymaker.fi). After the payment the customer receives a code which unlocks the equipment and boat keys. Two persons in a rowing boat.

It is also possible to make a reservation at the Activity Maker`s  office. The address is Olavinkatu 44, Savonlinna, tel. +358 44 978 2127.

The boat landing is 30km from Savonlinna. Turn to Kerimäki centre from road 71. From the centre, turn on to Hälväntie by the church, continue on to Tavisalontie that becomes Hälvänsaarentie. Drive along Hälvänsaarentie for 7 km  until you see a sign pointing to the left, “Hytermän veneet”, for the boats to Hytermä. The rowing distance to Hytermä at it`s shortest, is about 400 metres.

Instructions and Rules for Hytermä

The Nature Reserve Protection Order (of 1932) Governing the Area

Forbids the Following:

  • All kinds of arbitrary violation of and damage to the forest,
  • land extraction, use for cultivation and removal of stones,
  • grazing of animals, damaging of fauna, flora and dead parts of plants and minerals, and collection of related material,
  • all types of open fire and
  • hunting.

The forest needs to be managed with silvicultural expertise, for the sole purpose of maintaining natural beauty.

Outdoor Etiquette

1. Respect nature.

2. Mainly use marked trails.

3. Camp only where it is allowed.

4. Light your campfire only where it is allowed.

5. Do not litter.
