Metsähallitus, the Governing Body of Suomenlinna and entrepreneurs from the islands of Lonna and Vallisaari have collaborated together to enhance their services and accessibility and attract more domestic and international visitors to the archipelago. This summer, a new circular line will be available from Kalasatama that takes visitors to Vallisaari, Suomenlinna and Lonna.
The scheduled routes run by FRS Finland will begin operating on 1 May. The main line to Vallisaari Island and the waterbus lines to Suomenlinna and Lonna depart from Helsinki Market Square’s Lyypekinlaituri area, next to the Market Hall. The circular line, which runs from Kalasatama via Vallisaari, Suomenlinna and Lonna beginning on 22 May, connects the archipelago’s waterborne transport to Helsinki’s metro network.
“Together, Vallisaari, Suomenlinna and Lonna provide an exemplary selection of services in the archipelago, and thanks to the circular line, people can now visit each island with a single ticket on the same day,” says Petra Niskanen, Customer Service Manager at Metsähallitus. The line provides visitors with a host of interesting experiences: Vallisaari’s natural beauty, artistic attractions and cafés, Suomenlinna’s World Heritage Site and versatile services, and Lonna’s sauna, restaurant and event offerings.
“With just one day ticket, visitors can easily visit each island using different lines. This is a new island hopping product for the summer of 2023,” says Tomi Ståhlberg, CEO of FRS Finland. The archipelago will also host many events and attractions, such as the Helsinki Biennial, which will return to Vallisaari this summer. The Helsinki Biennial opens on Helsinki Day, 12 June, and continues until 17 September.
