Vargis, Open Wilderness Hut

The hut has a colourful history both as a hunting hideout and as a base for smugglers during the prohibition period. The hut is very well suited as a base for canoe trips. It is situated by a channel that is suitable for canoes and small watercraft. The hut "Vargis" consists of a simple room in an old boathouse that has been renovated for accommodation purposes.

As in other open wilderness huts in Finland, it is allowed to stay overnight at Vargis open wilderness hut without any booking.

The end of the 12 km long Björköby-Panike hiking trail is close by. A boat is needed to cross the sounds in order to reach the trail.
