Northern Lapland Region
Municipality of Inari (www.inari.fi)
The area is managed by Metsähallitus.
The Sevettijärvi-Näätämö Area is one of Finland's most lake-rich regions. Lakes Sevettijärvi and Kirakkajärvi as well as other smaller bodies of water bring beauty to this rugged wilderness. The lakes in the area are usually deep: the north end of Lake Äälisjärvi reaches a depth of 60 m. The terrain in the area varies between mixed forest, pine forest, which smells of sweet natural resin, dense fell birch forest and open treeless fell tops. Vainospää Fell (268 m) and Villavaara Fell are the highest fells in the area.
The area is suited for day trips or hikes lasting several days. Although the road is close by and there are some residents in the area it is rugged and wilderness-like. The Sevettijärvi-Näätämö Area is part of the Skolt Sámi homeland in the eastern part of the municipality of Inari.
