Häme Visitor Centre
Häme Nature Centre was first opened to the public in the spring of 2000. The nature centre is located in Ruostejärvi Recreation Area, on Häme's Härkätie road near two of our country's national parks. There is also a café at the centre (www.eerikkila.fi).
The nature centre was built in a traditional Häme region style. It has, for example, a closed court yard, which was known in olden days as the wolf yard. Animals were brought into the wolf yard for the night to keep them safe from predators.
From the parking area there is a set of duckboards which lead north; about 200 metres down the duckboards there is a very well preserved wolf trap- The hole trap was covered with branches and straw and bate was placed on top of these. When a wolf tried to snag the bate it fell in the hole and was then killed there.
