Area 51 km², established in 1990
The area is managed by Metsähallitus
The Lentua Nature Reserve introduces the visitor to the largest unregulated lake in Kuhmo as well as rugged, wilderness-like nature. Lentua is familiar to Finns through the Finnish painter Akseli Gallen-Kallela's illustrations based on Finland's national epic, the Kalevala, and the writings of Veikko Huovinen, a popular Finnish author.
The area is an excellent destination for water enthusiasts, since more than 70 per cent of it is made up of water.
The Lentua Nature Reserve forms a central part of the Friendship Park. Together with the Kostomuksha Nature Reserve on the Russian side, the Friendship Park form the Finnish-Russian Friendship Nature Reserve, which was established for shared research and monitoring efforts in the field of nature conservation. Nowadays also recreation and environmental education play an important role in the cooperation.
