Willow Tit. Photo: Risto PuranenThere are many natural features in Kemihaara Wilderness Area, which are considered typical of Finland's wilderness areas. There are soggy mires and meandering rivers cocooned in the middle of forests. There are sweeping pine-dominated backwoods and spruce covered ravines. There are also rocky fells and even areas where forest fires have burnt forests.

Kemihaara Wilderness Area together with Urho Kekkonen National Park and Vintilänkaira old-growth forest area, form a versatile combination of old-growth forests, pine mires, aapa bogs, fells and head waters.
