Walk on Marked Trails

Go Canoeing and Rowing

The strict nature reserve does not include the water areas, but on Lake Lohjanjärvi, which surrounds the Cape Karkalinniemi, it is possible to go canoeing and row boating. Karkkila - Tammisaari canoeing route goes across the lake. Inside the strict nature reserve, on the southern shore of the Cape Karkalinniemi, there is a landing place for boats. From this landing place, you can get to the marked trail which goes round the strict nature reserve.

Karkali is an excellent destination for someone who knows, or would like to learn, about the bird sounds. In the lush herb-rich forest, it is not easy to see the birds, but their singing concert in the spring is beyond compare. Most of the birds in Karkali are familiar mixed-wood forest species, but you may also see rare species, such as the Grey-headed Woodpecker (Picus canus), the Eurasian Tawny Owl (Strix aluco), the Eurasian Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium passerinum), the Icterine Warbler (Hippolais icterina) and the Spotted Nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes).
